While the Internet makes world wide communication efficient and accessible, it also makes it possible to locate someone, or at least the computer he/she is using. This makes it possible, for example, to restrict a certain country or region from accessing a web page. Mask Surf Lite will conceal information regarding your location or computer, thus, allowing for anonymous web browsing. After making a few settings, you can let it work as a system tray icon, and your personal information will be safe.

The software works well on Windows (from XP to 7) and it is compatible with popular browsers such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and others. The download is a little over 4 Mb and installing it requires no Internet related configurations.

Mask Surf is not a browser, so you will not have to switch from your preferred one. The software features a large array of settings which will be applied to your installed browsers. These settings can be found under different tabs on the user interface. General information can be found under the Status tab. Mask Surf will automatically detect your installed browsers and it will specify if they are anonymized or not by displaying either a check or cross sign next to each of their icons. To anonymize a browser, you only need to click an Apply button beneath the browser icons.

The second tab includes country related options. You can add certain countries to a list in order to make it look like you are browsing from one of them. Alternatively, you can opt to exclude the countries on that list. This can be very useful for bypassing geo-specific access restrictions. You can also make it look like you are using a different operating system or browser. The options for this can be found under the Masking tab. A series of drop menus will let you choose between different operating systems and their versions. These include Windows (from XP to 8) Mac OS X (Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion) and Linux. The same can be done with browsers and their versions.

Mask Surf works on Tor technology and you can choose a Tor mode like client only, relay or bridge. Any one of these can be selected by clicking their designated radio box. Each mode will make certain options available in the same tab. For example, when selecting the relay mode, you can specify a nickname or have the program generate a random one, type a fictional e-mail address and more.

Pros

Mask Surf makes it possible to browse the web anonymously. The options which allow this can be accessed and used with great ease.

Cons

The software may slow down your Internet connection. Besides that, many features are not available in the free version. With a few clicks of the mouse, Mask Surf will keep your identity safe.
